Achasta Handicap Policy 2023
The purpose of the USGA Handicap System is to make the game of golf more enjoyable by enabling golfers of different abilities to compete on an equitable basis. The system provides fair course handicaps for players regardless of ability, and adjusts the player’s USGA Index up or down as his/her game changes. At the same time it disregards high scores that bear little relation to the player’s potential ability and promotes continuity by making handicaps continuous from one playing season to the next. A USGA Handicap Index is useful for all forms of play. A Basic premise underlies the USGA Handicap System, namely that every player will try to make the best score he/she can on each hole in every round played, regardless of where the round is played. And, that he/she will post every acceptable round for peer review. The players and the Handicap Committee have a joint responsibility for adhering to these premises.
For years now, a new Policy has been implemented at Achasta Golf Club that will require both players and the Achasta Handicap Committee to step up efforts to insure that ALL scores are being posted and in a timely manner. Players will have a responsibility to check in at the golf shop and announce that they are going to play either a 9 or 18 hole round of golf. Upon completion of play and as soon as possible, the player must post his/her score on the handicap computer in the pro shop, or use the online GHIN App to post their own scores. Players are not to delay postings to manipulate their Handy Caps for upcoming events. The player may choose to slide under door if pro shop is closed if they do not wish to post themselves. Please insure that necessary information is legible e.g. Name (s), member number(s), tees played, date of the round, and the equitable stroke adjusted score(s) to be posted. The pro shop will insure that the score(s) is posted ASAP. Records of all rounds and the date played will be maintained by the club and periodically supplied to the Handicap Committee. Committee members will cross reference the report with the computer to see if players have posted their scores in a timely manner. Players not posting their scores may be contacted by a representative of the golf committee either by telephone or emails. Continued offenses could result in scores being posted for the players and/or modifications of their official handicap for future tournaments and events.
It is the intent of this policy to insure that USGA regulations are followed by both the member and the Handicap Committee. Failure to comply could result in our club being disqualified in participating in USGA and GSGA events, as well as other clubs member/guest tournaments. It is the responsibility of everyone to insure that the Basic Premise underlying the Handicap System is followed.
